Before we begin any project, we have to assess if we are making SMART decisions. If we fail to blueprint the goal clearly, then we cannot guarantee success. Smart is an old concept at the time of this writing. I first heard of this concept in 2003, but these fundamentals never go away. Let us examine what SMART stands for:<\/span><\/p>\n

SPECIFIC<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 we are not trying to solve world hunger, but if you do not believe in small changes can make a tremendous transformation, then try to go to bed with a mosquito in the room<\/span><\/p>\n

MEASURABLE<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 NOT conceptual, but very discrete, like 1 second faster per transaction for the next million transactions. We overestimate what we can do in one year and underestimate what we can do in ten years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ACHIEVABLE<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 in our scope and within our reach. Reduce your goals and expand your timeline. These small continuous victories will pull you along instead of trying to push yourself. If you spend too much energy to get to your destination, it will leave an unpleasant memory, promoting hesitation and procrastination.<\/span><\/p>\n

RELEVANT<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 focused on results that matter<\/span><\/p>\n

TIMELY<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 related to the business strategy<\/span><\/p>\n
